CV - Art
"I describe myself as a figurative painter with a comprehensive knowledge of art history. I have taught introduction to painting and life drawing at the Arts Academy, London. 'Whatever I do I bring a way of thinking that can apply to many situations. For example, skills required to paint a portrait of a model seated in front of me, I have to be aware of what is needed, a sense of scale, and of priorities to be able to break things down into manageable parts. Seeing the bigger picture I have to keep the task simple and apply my knowledge areas, of colour, texture, tone and shape to it. I communicate thoughts, feelings through marks to make a coherent expression in my painting. Communication is all-important. |
Before I went to Middlesex university to do a BA in Fine Art, I worked as a Gallery Warder for two years at Tate Millbank, National Gallery (one year) and National Portrait Gallery for six months. I moved around to gain knowledge of art.
